  • Private island holidays become affordable
  • Islands are located all over the world
  • Cheapest is a Canadian island that sleeps seven people for $129

PRIVATE island holidays aren't just for mega-rich celebrities. You can rent out your own island for as little as a $129 per night.

No, we're not joking.

AirBNB, an accommodation booking website that launched in Australia six months ago, has ten private islands available for holiday rental under $1000.

The pick of the bunch would have to be Fiji's Nanuku Island. This 10-acre paradise is filled with hundred year-old coconut trees. The island's nearest neighbour Red Bull's exclusive 7-star Laucala Island Resort is 24 kilometres away. Nanuku is just as beautiful but much cheaper at $499 per night. And you get it all to yourself.

The island is a marine and wildlife sanctuary home to nesting Hawkesbill and Leatherback turtles. There are two basic wooden huts with 180 degree ocean views just ten steps away from the water. In total they sleep eight people comfortably.

The owners will even throw in a snorkel, kayak and fishing gear. On request you can get a private cook, catering and guided diving tours.

It's even cheaper to rent a private island in Canada. For $129 you can rent a private island in the middle of the Canadian channel of the St Lawrence River. The island is 45 minutes by boat and car to Kingston, Ontario. It may be a little colder than Fiji but you can still swim, go boating and watch fabulous sunrises and sunsets. The island cabin sleeps seven in "rustic comfort".

It the US, McGee Island in St George costs $543 per night to rent out. The island accommodates at least 16 in a ten bedroom home. But expect to lose track of time: there are no clocks, no televisions, no radios and no telephones.

For the more adventurous you can even get a private island in Colombia.  Here you’ll find a fully furnished six bedroom villa with direct access to a beautiful sandy beach will set you back just $499 per night.
There's also a villa available from $795 a night at the private island beachfront of Palawan, Philippines, from travel booking website TravelMob.

THE outrageous 162-metre-long yacht belonging to Russian billionaire and owner of Chelsea Football Club Roman Abramovich has sailed in to New York City and may stay for weeks, according to reports.

Last week the yacht docked near midtown Manhattan and is expected to stick around until mid-April according to BusinessInsider.com.

While no reason was given for the visit, it may have something to do with a baby - Abramovich's girlfriend Dasha Zhukova is pregnant. Regardless, it's wowing spectators.

The yacht is quite a sight. It features two swimming pools including a 16-metre pool that transforms into a disco when the water is drained out and the floor is raised, two helipads and a hanger below the deck for carrying a third helicopter, a cinema, salon-spa and restaurant.

There's accommodation for 92 crew and staff members with 24 guest cabins - each coming with its own 1.8m private cinema screen.

There's also a 464sqm master suite that's armour-plated and windowed with bullet-proof glass.

And pirates, beware: The boat reportedly boasts a military-grade missile defense system, an underwater escape hatch and a submarine.

Estimates of its cost range from $373 million to $1.1 billion.
