Fog blankets city ahead of more rain

BRISBANE city has been blanketed by fog at the start of a day forecast to bring more rain.

The Bureau of Meteorology said low cloud cover was expected to linger over Brisbane's inner city for much of the morning but will gradually ease by midday.

Forecaster Matthew Bass said moist east to north-easterly winds swept in from the Coral Sea were responsible for fog and showers over the southeast and said conditions were not expected to ease until Wednesday.

He said more rain is expected to later today as a new trough moves in from the west.

The Gold Coast recorded 23mm of rain overnight and Brisbane CBD recorded 4mm.
