THE Brisbane Broncos have announced their first ever junior rugby league academy would be set up in Logan City.

Broncos CEO Paul White confirmed on Wednesday the academy would be based at the city's new $6 million sporting facility, which was expected to be completed by next year.

White said the academy would be staffed by fulltime Broncos development officers and be a pathway for footballers from the age of 14.

The Broncos announcement is a shot across the bow of the Gold Coast Titans organisation, which has long regarded the Logan region as part of its recruitment catchment.

Only last week Titans players visited a Beenleigh school.

Logan is one of Queensland's richest rugby league heart lands, having produced elite NRL players such as Cameron Smith, Corey Parker, Chris Sandow, Josh Papalii, Lote Tuqiri, Corey Norman, Antonio Winterstein, Will Zillman, Gerard Beale and rising stars such as Raiders play-maker Anthony Milford and emerging Broncos backrower Caleb Timu.

White praised the development work of former star winger Michael Hancock in the Logan City region.

It was also confirmed the new sporting complex would be in contention to host under 16 interstate rugby league games.
