Southeast warned to brace for cold snap

TEMPERATURES are set to plunge across the southeast in coming days with a cold front moving across the region until Sunday.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast that temperatures will drop to 8C for much of Brisbane, and lows of 3C in Ipswich and the Darling Downs.

Forecaster Vinord Anand said cold dry air blowing in from the south and southwest was responsible for the cold snap.

"You'll need to break out your winter clothing as a burst of cooler dry air comes through from the south earlier than expected," he said.

"It should keep the clouds away for the next few days for a mostly fine and sunny weekend but there may be a scattering of showers in the north towards the Sunshine Coast as a system develops on Thursday."

Areas around Gatton and Archerfield are expected to see frost and temperatures below 2C.
