A UNION protest outside the State Law building in central Brisbane today caused traffic woes.

The protest, at the corner of Ann and George Streets, caused traffic congestion as emotions from yesterday's Labour Day march in the city carried into a protest outside Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie's office.

Unionists angry that the Labour Day holiday had been moved from May to October chanted "Labor Day is in bloody May" as they urged Mr Bleijie to 'give us back Labor Day'.

Members of the BLF union said they were upset at the relocation of the day and wanted to make a stand.

Police closed off a lane in Ann Street for safety reasons.
