THE CLEM7 toll road is going up for sale, with receivers to the collapsed operator of the road, which uses a tunnel under the Brisbane River, calling for expressions of interest.

The 6.8km road was opened to traffic in 2010 but consistently struggled to meet overoptimistic forecasts for traffic.

A big debt burden eventually helped trigger the financial collapse of the operator, stockmarket-listed RiverCity Motorway, in 2011.

Martin Madden and David Merryweather from KordaMentha were appointed receivers, and Mr Madden yesterday said a sales process would begin from today.

Investment bank Goldman Sachs was assisting with the sale.

Mr Madden said the first step would be calling for expressions of interest.

BrisConnections, the operator of Brisbane's other big toll road, Airport Link, collapsed earlier this year, also the victim of overly ambitious forecasts.

Beaten up just for a piece of pizza

A PIZZA delivery driver was attacked all for a few pizzas during a violent robbery in Ipswich last night.

The 35-year-old driver was delivering pizzas to a house on Fitzroy St in Churchill about 8pm when he was approached by two men.

It is alleged the men punched the delivery man several times before grabbing the pizzas and running off.

The driver was not seriously injured in the attack.

A man, 19, from Churchill and a man, 19, from Surfers Paradise, were due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on May 8 after being charged with robbery with violence.

A 19-year-old Churchill woman was charged with receiving tainted property and was also due to appear on May 8.

Police hope for final piece of jigsaw

POLICE have made a breakthrough in the mystery of a pensioner who disappeared in suspicious circumstances more than seven years ago.

Noble Park man Mahalingham Sinnathamby, 68, was last seen leaving a doctor’s appointment in Carrum Downs on the morning of August 25, 2005.

Police believe he filled a prescription before returning home but hasn’t been seen since.

After years of investigating the case, Dandenong detectives say they have finally identified a person of interest after an anonymous caller phoned Crime Stoppers.

Greater Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Kane Taylor said Mr Sinnathamby’s family had been left not knowing what happened to their loved one.

“Someone out there knows something and it is time for that person to come forward and help provide the closure they so desperately need.

“Even the smallest piece of information could be the final piece of the jigsaw that we need to close this case,” Sen-Det Taylor said.
