METRO says trains are running as normal after widespread morning delays impacted 10 lines.
Commuters across the network were affected by the delays, the first of which Metro tweeted about at 7.15am.
Metro spokeswoman Larisa Tait said a faulty train between Flinders St and Southern Cross stations meant there was only one set of tracks to run Craigieburn, Sunbury, Upfield, Werribee and Williamstown trains.
``They did have some knock on effect to Frankston, Cranbourne and Pakenham just because sometimes a Werribee train will become a Frankston train,’’ Ms Tait said.
The morning of drama also saw:
A WOMAN in a wheelchair fall on to the tracks at Mooroolbark;
THE Werribee line suspended between Werribee and Laverton after a person was hit by a train;
BUSES run on the Sandringham line as power works at Balaclava were carried out;
Ms Tait said Lilydale services were delayed after a person in a wheelchair fell on to the tracks about 9.15am.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman Paul Bentley said crews were called to the scene and took a woman in her 50s to Maroondah Hospital with hip injuries.
She was in a stable condition, Mr Bentley said.
It is the second time in a week a person in a wheelchair has rolled off a platform and on to the tracks at Mooroolbark.
Mr Bentley said a man in his 60s was taken to Maroondah Hospital on April 28 after rolling on to the tracks.
Ms Tait said new wiring at Balaclava electrical substation began at midday and works were finished just before 1.30pm.
``It was much easier and beneficial to carry out those works at midday when the network wasn’t busy to ensure no problems in the afternoon,’’ Ms Tait said.
``It is just going to be a normal afternoon. We don’t anticipate any delays.’’
