A MAN posing as a school crossing supervisor tried to abduct a young teenage boy in Melbourne's north today.
Detectives are investigating the attempted abduction, which happened in Coburg about 8.30am.
The 13-year-old was walking along Sydney Rd when a man approached him and asked for directions.
“The man asked for directions, then asked the boy to come to his car to show him directions on the Melway's,” Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said.
The boy followed the man to a carpark on Waterfield St to show him directions.
“The offender has then shown the boy a school crossing supervisor uniform that was inside the car," Ms Batty said.
“The offender has then lunged at the boy but he managed to get away.”
The man is described as of Indian appearance, unshaven, medium build, around 170 to 175cm and dark hair with a bald spot.
He was wearing a black Puma jacket, mustard-coloured pants and was wearing silver rings on his right hand.
The vehicle the offender was driving is described as being a champagne coloured Toyota 4x4.
