UPDATE: CCTV images of a man loitering near a chemist before a woman endured a terrifying carjacking have been released by police.
The woman was threatened with scissors in a terrifying car-jacking across several suburbs in Melbourne's west.
Just after 12.30pm on Thursday, the carjacker leapt into the passenger-side of the 31-year-old's BMW as she was parking near the Footscray markets, along Byron St.
Threatening the driver with scissors, her attacker demanded she drive to Union Rd, Ascot Vale, several suburbs away.
“He demanded that she drive to an ATM,” Flemington Det Sgt Cameron Kelly told Leader Newspapers today.
Nearing the ATM, the attacker changed his mind and told her to go into a Commonwealth Bank branch at the corner of St Leonards Rd to obtain cash.
The man stayed in the car, but inside the branch, the terrified woman alerted staff who called police.
The offender fled the scene on foot before police arrived and was last seen on Union Rd shortly before 1pm.
Det-Sgt Keily said the woman was unhurt, but urged any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
He is described as aged in his late-20s, between 160-170cm, of Southern European appearance, with short dark hair and a medium build, and was wearing a dark blue long sleeved top with khaki pants.
