]]>PARIS, LONDON, NEW YORK. We give you our tips for a good night out. What have we missed?
London
Bangers and mash, scotch eggs and ploughman's lunch are British staples that can be enjoyed at most pubs across the city. For the best pub grub try the Cutty Sark in Greenwhich, The Duke of Sussex in Chiswick or the Public House in Islington. If you're after more than a good ol' fashioned hearty pie, check out Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at Knightsbridge, The OXO tower restaurant or have afternoon tea at The Ritz or The Langham - another cup of…? Yes please!
Drinking in London does not mean pints of warm beer. Dark ale comes in the form of Truman's Three Threads or Fuller's London Porter, and for a summer drop, Fuller's Discovery. For a decent watering hole, try the Jerusalem Tavern in Farringdon, Camden's Brewdog or The Rake in Southwark.
Shopping in London certainly leaves you spoilt for choice. From the flagship stores on famed Oxford Street to gifts and treasures at London's markets – try Spitalfields, the Sunday Up Market, Portobello Road and Borough Markets for food. Europe's largest shopping centre is at Westfield Stratford and no visit could possibly be complete without a trip to London's iconic Harrods and Selfridges.
Whether you're planning a big night out at a super club or happy to bop along to the jukebox at a pub, London has a happening nightlife (despite dreary weather). For clubs try Fabric, Cargo, Egg and Pacha London or the Ministry of Sound. For musicals nothing (except maybe Broadway) can beat the West End.
New York
It's the city that never sleeps - and nor should you.
From a New York slice to a pastrami sandwich at Katz's Deli, NYC is a multicultural delight. Street vendors sell tacos, hot dogs - and don't forget a burger with fries. Oh, and a hot Chocolate from the City Bakery on West 18th Street is perfect with a Magnolia cupcake.
Ever heard of Studio 54? NYC has had a pumping nightlife before we even used the words pumping nightlife. Check out a humming jazz bar, a club in the famous meatpacking district and a cabaret show on Broadway. With new celebrity-filled clubs opening every night of the week, there's always somewhere to dance the night away.
For drinks it's got to be a Cosmo, doesn't it? Even before the SATC girls made it famous, New York has always been known for its fabulous cocktails in East Village, Chelsea or on the Upper West Side. For a cold beer, head to a sports bars like Tonic in Midtown.
If you've ever watched an episode of Sex and the City (come on, you know you have!), you'll understand the shopping and fashion mecca that is New York. There's Barney's on Madison, Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Ave and Bloomindale's on Broadway - and that's just the tip of the Manolo Blahnik.
Paris
From haute couture to haute cuisine, it's luxury all the way.
If you can't swing the 400-euro a head Parisian haute cuisine that foodies flock to the world's most romantic city for, rest assured you won't leave hungry. Pick up a Pain au Chocolat before feasting on escargots, steak frites or Coq au Vin and finish off with some Macarons. And remember, French women don't get fat!
While the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame are must-sees when visiting Paris, so too are its vineyards, which have been celebrated since the Middle Ages. They can be found on the slopes of Montmartre and Suresnes, with chardonnay and pinot noir among the most popular and can all be savoured in the city's famously bustling wine bars. For a glass of bubbles with one of the world's best views try Georges at the Centre Pompidou.
Paris is the epicentre of cool – so bouncers are ruthless with their velvet ropes and clubs are notoriously hard to get into. For the city's VIP and some serious beautiful-people-watching visit the Champs-Elysees and Trocadero. Marais has a young wine bar vibe and Grands Boulevards is known for its DJs - and don't forget a visit to the Moulin Rouge.
Only in Paris could you shop day and night and still not see all of the world's fashion capital. Champs-Elysees is the ‘Rodeo Drive' of Paris - think Chanel, Dior and all that is couture. For jewellery head to the Rue Saint-Honoreand Place Vendome, or the Marais for trendy designers.
