Hunt for hit-run killer

UPDATE: A MAN has died in hospital after a Footscray hit-run last night, as police hunt another driver over a cyclist's injuries.

The 28-year-old pedestrian was struck by a car while crossing a road in Footscray at 8.30pm.

The Maidstone man was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious head injuries, but died this morning.

The collision happened on Ballarat Road, near Park Street.

“Witnesses have told police that the driver of a red or maroon Honda sedan slowed to a stop but took off a short time later without getting out of the vehicle,” Senior Constable Melissa Seach said.

“The vehicle was located in a laneway west of Ferguson Street in Maribyrnong around 4am,” she said.

Major Collision Unit detectives are appealing for the driver to come forward.

"It's easy for people to panic in these situations but it's much better for the driver to come forward of their own volition," Detective Mark Amos said.

Cyclist's bike dragged in hit-run

In a separate incident, a cyclist was riding on a footpath in Scoresby at 6pm when he was struck by a car which sped off, dragging his bike 17m down the road.

The red sedan, possibly a Commodore, was travelling north on Stud Rd turning right into Evans St.

The cyclist has a suspected broken ankle.

Pedestrian struck and killed

Meanwhile, a Yarra Junction man, 55, was walking north on Monbulk-Seville Rd in Seville about 7pm last night when he was hit by a car going in the same direction.

He died at the scene.

The driver is helping police with their investigation and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed either hit-runs to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au
