THE alleged mastermind of Australia's biggest tax evasion scheme has broken his silence to insist he has not ripped off Crocodile Dundee actor Paul Hogan.
British tax adviser Philip Egglishaw spoke briefly with the Herald Sun to deny claims he has taken off with $32 million belonging to Hogan.
"My firm is regulated, externally audited and operates openly in Switzerland," he said in a statement given to the Herald Sun.
"The accusations made in the media this week that I or my firm have stolen or inappropriately dealt with client funds are completely false and vehemently denied."
Reports this week said Hogan's US lawyers had filed documents with a California court to retrieve $32 million they allege was misappropriated by Mr Egglishaw's firm Geneva-based firm Strachans.
Mr Egglishaw and his former Strachans business partner, Philip de Figueiredo, are targets of Operation Wickenby, the massive joint probe by the Australian Tax Office and the Australian Crime Commission into a sophisticated global tax scam.
The investigation has ensnared Australian entertainment identities including music promoter Glenn Wheately.
Mr de Figueiredo is serving two and a half years jail for conspiring to defraud the commonwealth.
Mr Egglishaw, who is the subject of an international arrest warrant, says he intends to meet his tax obligations in Australia.
"We are strictly following advice received from our Australian QCs to achieve an outcome satisfactory to our clients and the Australian authorities to allow repatriation of funds to Australia ensuring that all due taxes are met," he said.
He made the remarks in a statement, signed and dated April 17. He would not take questions. He is believed to be in Switzerland.
