CBD casino relocation still on the cards

THE biggest gaming operator in Queensland is still in talks with the State Government about a possible relocation of its Treasury Casino in the Brisbane CBD.

Echo Entertainment is expected to announce plans on Thursdzay involving its long-term vision for the Treasury and a broader entertainment precinct in the CBD.

The company reported a 5.3 per cent drop in half-year net profit to $66.5 million, with the performance of its Queensland assets described as "soft''.

In addition to the Treasury, Echo operates Jupiters Gold Coast and Jupiters Townsville casinos, as well as The Star casino in Sydney.

Pre-tax earnings in Queensland fell 22.8 per cent to $48.4 million, the company said.

New chief executive John Redmond said further attention would be focused on the operating cost base of the Queensland casinos.

"One of my main priorities is the development and investment potential of our Queensland properties and I share the Newman Government's vision for tourism in Queensland,'' Mr Redmond said.
