Man charged over cattle mutilation

A MAN has been charged after two cows were brutally slaughtered with bows, arrows, knives and ropes in Gympie on March 23.

Police were called after the owner of the two droughtmaster cows found their remains strewn over 500m on Reserve Rd in Widgee about 6am the next morning.

One of the cows was heavily pregnant.

Detectives from the Kingaroy Stock and Rural Crime Squad have charged a 28-year-old man with one count each of trespass, stealing, possessing tainted property and killing an animal with intent to steal.

The man from The Palms is due to appear in the Gympie Magistrates Court on April 22.

SARCIS officers have advised graziers they can assist police to prevent livestock loss by installing surveillance cameras.

Members of the public have been asked to report any suspicious behaviour to police.
