Airport Link toll rise decision is in

MOTORISTS have two weeks left to use Brisbane Airport Link for $2 or $2.50 with receivers today announcing a scheduled increase will take place on April 18.

The toll rise had been up in the air following the February 19 financial collapse of tollway operators BrisConnections who owe creditors $3 billion.

Lower than expected patronage of the tunnels led to the company's downfall with about 47,000 vehicles a day using Airport Link in December - less than half of the forecast 135,000 vehicles a day at the end of the toll-free period.

No traffic data has been released for the tollway since the start of January with receivers PPB Advisory withholding the latest quarterly statistics.

However the company has confirmed the next toll hike will go ahead, taking the cost of a trip through the tunnel from Bowen Hills to Toombul to $3.75 (up from $2.50).

Shorter trips - from Bowen Hills to Kedron and Kedron to Toombul - will cost $2.90 from April 18, up 90 cents.

A further toll rise is due to kick in from October 18, increasing the cost of using Airport Link to almost $5 a trip.
