POLICE have found a car believed to be responsible for a hit-run which left one man with life-threatening injuries and another in hospital.

Police believe the two men were hit by a black Holden Cruze sedan on Malahang Parade in Heidelberg West about 10pm last night.

Residents said they heard a loud bang followed by a woman's screams around the same time, 3AW reports.

A 31-year-old is in a critical condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital after he was dragged about 40m before being thrown onto the road.

A 32-year-old was treated at the Austin Hospital.

While police still don’t know the identity of the driver, the car was found this morning in a shopping centre car park on Livingston St, Ivanhoe.

Police have spoken to numerous witnesses at the scene but after still trying to piece together the movements of the two injured men before the collision.

The Major Collision Investigation Unit is probing the incident.

Meanwhile, a hoon P-plater had his car impounded after driving at almost 70km over the speed limit in Melbourne’s north last night.

Police from the Fawkner Highway Patrol pulled the driver of the Honda Integra over after clocking him travelling at 147km/h in an 80km/h zone on Sydney Rd, Campbellfield.

The 20-year-old Brunswick West man had his car immediately impounded and its expected to be charged on summons with multiple traffic offences.
