Storms tipped for Easter Sunday

HEAVY rainfall is likely to put a dampener on festivities in the latter part of the four-day Easter break this weekend.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Andrew Cameron said heavy showers and storms would set in from Sunday across southeast Queensland.

"It's not ideal camping weather on the Sunday and Monday," he said.

"There will be isolated showers on the coast on Friday and Saturday with some thunderstorm activity inland but most conditions should be okay with just light falls and showers," he said.

"But on Sunday and Monday we should see a change coming through from the west bringing more intense rainfall, showers and more storms."

Mr Cameron said the wet weather will be the result of a 'a surface trough from the west coupled with a weaker upper trough'.

The trough will form near Birdsville, in southwest Queensland, on Thursday and drive across the state, building in intensity until it reaches the coast and downpours ensue.

Today's top of 29C in Brisbane is likely to continue throughout the week before the change cools temperatures by a few degrees late Sunday and into next week.

Mr Cameron said temperatures this month had been average.

"It's not appearing unseasonably warm and temperatures are still the average at the moment," he said.
