A BRISBANE radio competition winner has stunned some of Australia's best-known comedians by proposing to his girlfriend on a Melbourne-bound flight.

Funny men Peter Helliar, Tommy Little and Karl Chandler surprised passengers on a Jetstar flight from Brisbane to Melbourne on Wednesday morning with a pop-up comedy show.

The trio were promoting the Melbourne Comedy Festival and had the 200-odd passengers in stitches with their 30 minute show.

When they finished their gig, Queenslander Luke Smith, one of half a dozen passengers who had won tickets for the flight, walked to the front of the plane with his girlfriend Kayley Painter.

Smith, 21, was supposed to close the show with a gag but instead caught the comedians off-guard when he got down on one knee, pulled a ring out of a bag and proposed to his 22-year-old partner.

She said "yes"', then hugged and kissed her fiance as the passengers broke into applause for the loved-up couple from Caboolture.
