A QANTAS plane has reportedly been forced to make an emergency landing at Sydney Airport after the undercarriage overheated.

Initial reports said the plane had landed due to a suspected cabin fire, but Channel Nine is reporting that the undercarriage overheated.

Ambulance crews are assessing about 50 passengers for dehydration after the cabin of their Dash-8 aircraft overheated, AAP reports.

An ambulance spokesman said paramedics were called to the airport around 1.30pm today after "reports the temperature inside was quite high,'' he said.

He said it was unclear whether the plane, which was at a gate, had been departing or arriving.

Two women were being treated for dehydration, the spokesman said.

A spokeswoman for Qantas said she understood there had been an incident on board one of its aircraft and she was seeking more information.

News Limited has contacted Qantas for a response. ''I can't confirm anything. I'm just looking into it at the moment,'' a spokeswoman said.

A spokeswoman for Sydney Airport confirmed a Qantas aircraft landed there this afternoon but would not give any further details.

''I can confirm that there was a Qantas aircraft that landed,'' she said.
