Parma to go ... but hold the pot

A GEELONG hotel is set to become the first pub in Australia to offer drive-through parmigiana.

By simply winding down the window, highway-hardened, hungry motorists can get a generous serve of deep-fried greasy goodness delivered straight on to their laps.

In what has been hailed as a fast-food phenomenon, 10 different varieties of the popular Victorian pub staple will be dished out in a move likely to cheese off any proprietor who didn't think of it first.

But wailing nutritionists take note: the fastest parma in town will come with a healthy serve of salad. Eating it, is of course, optional.

Clarendon Hotel owners Grant and Kimberley Ryan said the concept seemed like a no-brainer for a town obsessed with the mighty parma.

"Pub food has changed dramatically in recent years because people want more,'' Mr Ryan said.

"We were already offering drive-through coffee in the morning and knew we could extend it to something else.

"There was already a lot of pizza shops around and we sold a lot of parmas already so it seemed like the right thing to do.

"The feedback we have received already is that people can't wait.''

Mr Ryan said the parma remained the most popular menu item across all three of his local hotels.

"It has always been that hearty meal and the hangover cure,'' he said. "Our sales always go up on a Sunday.''

Customers will need to phone through their order at least 20 minutes earlier.

The drive-through parma is expected to cost $11.90 when available next month.
