WANT to order a club sandwich on room service? It will cost you more in Zurich than anywhere in the world.
This week TripAdvisor released their inaugural TripIndex Room Service 2013 - a cost-comparison of common incidental items and services that many travellers will purchase when staying in a hotel, across key destinations around the world.
The survey compared the total cost of five items - a club sandwich, peanuts, water and a cocktail ordered on room service, and the dry cleaning of a single shirt - in four-star hotels around the world.
The results may surprise you.
In Australia, Hobart offers the best value for money. But there was less than $10 between all the Australian capital cities.
Hobart's room service total came to $48.41. The next best was Canberra at $49.20. The most expensive city in Australia to order room service was Perth at $57.46 followed by Melbourne at $56.90.
Internationally, the best value can be found in Cape Town South Africa with a total TripIndex Room Service cost of $19.14. Egypt's Sharm el Sheikh took second place with $23.21.
Russia topped the list as the costliest with a TripIndex value of $80.60, followed by Paris at $67.09.
What about buying the items individually? TripAdvirosr said there were significant differences between cities for all the items on the list.
Club sandwich - The most expensive destination for this common hotel food order, is Zurich, Switzerland, where the average cost is $28.32 - over five times that of the cheapest in the list, $5.36 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Bottle of water - Oslo, Norway has the highest cost for a bottle of water at $7.94. In both Hong Kong, China and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia all the hotels contacted provided bottled water free of charge.
